Well, it is not one formula or equation it is a multitude depending on what it you are trying to calculate. I would suggets obtaining the book Hydraulics, what it is all about by Harold Wass Jr second editon or Gagnon has several books worth buying. Both of which can be obtained through NFPA or SFPE.org. The appendix of NFPA 13 also goes through Hydraulics briefly.
